“The sacred temple of pizza.”
Founded in 1870, the world-renowned pizzeria L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele is one of the oldest and best pizzerias in Naples. Michele Condurro from the Condurro family perfected the family art of pizza making and cooking. Since then, five generations of master pizza makers have carried on the work of Michele. Michele’s instructions on pizza making were simple: there are only two types of Neapolitan Pizza, the “Marinara” and the “Margherita.”
In 2019, I tried the traditional Margherita pizza at their historic location in Naples, featured in the film Eat Pray Love with actress Julia Roberts. Da Michele issues numbered tickets to customers to ensure that the restaurant doesn’t get too busy. The pizzas range from 5 to 7 euros each. The pizza is absolutely incredible.

This famous restaurant has made its way to Los Angeles. The Los Angeles location opened in spring 2019 and is located in the space which once held Hollywood’s beloved Café Des Artistes. Lead by Head Pizzaiolo Michele Rubini, the restaurant is currently serving the two iconic Neapolitan pizzas, Marinara and Margherita, while also offering a few other options. They also have a full menu of delicious appetizers, pastas, and more. For those of you in LA or visiting, you can order pickup or delivery online.
Da Michele is expanding rapidly in the United States. Next stop: New York City and Belmont Shores.
