New York City, New York: Museum Guide

NYC is home to some of the finest museums in the world. Don’t pass up the opportunity to view some of the best traveling and carefully curated exhibitions. I’m lucky to call NYC home and I’m excited to share with you all the museums I frequent when I’m back on the East Coast.

MoMA – Museum of Modern Art

Jump into the NYC Modern Art scene, at midtowns finest the MOMA. Considered one of the largest and most influential museums of modern art in the world, this is definitely worth a visit. Pop in for a quick cultural tour before hitting the stores on 5th ave or venturing over to Central Park.

The Guggenheim

After a lovely stroll around the Central Park Reservoir, the Guggenheim is the perfect museum to continue your NYC exploration. Inside the walls of this funky building there is an array of magnificent artworks including the likes of Cezanne and Chagall. The Guggenheim is adorned by both locals and wandering tourists.

The Met

Even those who know nothing about museums in New York knew this one was coming… The Metropolitan Museum of Art. First things first, live out your Gossip Girl moment on the Met steps. Then, find yourself blown away by the grandeur of this museum, as you’re surrounded by incredible art from all over the world. The Met is permanent home to a variety of ancient and significant artifacts; as well as, rotating exhibitions.  Exhibitions at the Met are a reflection of the explorations of the art scene and current social situations.

The Brooklyn Museum

Want to escape or stay away from Manhattan? Venture to Brooklyn and explore the beauty of the Brooklyn Museum. With a constant rotation of incredible exhibitions, this museum is worth the trip! The third largest museum in NYC, in terms of physical size, and home to around 500,000 pieces. After your visit, consider a walk through Prospect Park. Nothing compliments art quite like nature.

The Whitney Museum of Modern Art

Delve into America’s modern art scene and explore some of the great works from the 20th and 21st centuries. The Whitney, once situated on the Upper East Side, now resides in the Meatpacking District (West Village). The new space offers more room for the numerous works in the Whitney’s collection. Throw on your edgiest outfit and embrace the artistic beauty that exists in New York. After you can head to the High Line park, use these reinvented train tracks as your runway.

The Highline

The High Line is a public park located in the West Village, within walking distance from the Whitney Museum. Once an old railway line, the reinvented park is now home to nature, art, and locals. Meander this 1.45 mile long park with your eyes peeled for commissioned art, pop-up stations, and other community work. Personally, this is one of my favorite places to show off to visiting friends. A place for us to relax, catch up, and explore the art gems in NYC. After, stop by Chelsea Piers for a cocktail and another great view. Or wander over to the Vessel for some more tourist fun and great shopping.
