San Ysdiro Ranch, a Ty Warner property, is nothing short of magical. Voted the #1 resort hotel in California by Travel and Leisure in 2022, this little resort tucked away in the foothills of the Santa Ynez Mountains is in a peaceful, idyllic setting with thirty-eight vine-covered cottages surrounding the property. Citrus trees, olive trees, lavender fields, herbs and flowers are just a few touches to the perfectly landscaped gardens that make up this exclusive destination.

As I drove up the winding roads of San Ysidro, I was immediately in awe of the flawless mixture of natural beauty, romantic heritage, and classic luxury.

Through private entries are cottages filled with antiques and original artwork with personal, exquisite gardens. Each cottage is unique its its own way, but all of them have a European country-home feel. Cozy fireplaces, private patios, oversized sunken spas, and outdoor rain showers are just a few of the luxuries of this amazing resort.
The real star of the show is the multiple culinary experiences by Executive Chef Matthew Johnson directly on the property. We only had the opportunity to dine at The Stonehouse Restaurant, but I will absolutely be going to the other two during my next visit to Santa Barbara.

The Stonehouse Restaurant
Recently named the #1 Restaurant in Santa Barbara by OpenTable and a Wine Spectator Grand Award-winning restaurant, The Stonehouse Restaurant is located in a 19th-century citrus packing house with a romantic full-bar lounge and separate dining room with an outdoor terrace and a crackling fireplace. Stonehouse serves regional cuisine accented by fresh-picked herbs and produce from the chef’s organic garden. This was by far my favorite meal in Santa Barbara.
Must Try: Crispy Chickpea & Artichoke Cake, Korean Beef Tacos, Maitake Mushroom Pad ‘Ty’
Plow & Angel
Exposed stone walls, stained glass windows, and rough-hewn wood beams at Plow & Angel set a cozy and romantic mood to enjoy refined twists on comfort food favorites. The restaurant has a special touch of original artwork including an homage to the property’s namesake, Saint Isidore, hanging above the fireplace.

Carriage House
Carriage House is tucked in a charming cottage with a fully enclosed private patio surrounded by weathered oaks. It’s an incredible place to enjoy your evening next to the stone fireplace, outdoors under the stars and twinkle lights, or reserve the adjacent cottages for a once-in-a-lifetime occasion.

San Ysidro Ranch is one of the most beautiful, remarkable resorts I’ve ever been to. Please do yourself a favor and book a visit here, even if it’s for one night or just for a meal. Miles of hiking trails, waterfalls, inspirational views, and amazing meals are also drawing me back for another visit to Montecito soon. Until next time San Ysidro.
